Raohe Night Market

A lot of those who’s already been to Taiwan rave about the country’s different variety of foods and most of the scrumptious meals can not only be found in high-end restaurants. One of the activities that the tourists are looking forward to when visiting Taipei is its night markets.

Truth be told, we really did not eat much during our stay in Taiwan. Such a bummer I know but because of too much exhaustion from touring, we rarely feel hungry. During our second day in fact, after eating our breakfast at McDonalds, we just had an ice cream at Yangmingshan and the next meal that followed was when we’re already at Raohe Night Market.

While we skipped Shilin Night Market because we were dead tired during our first day, we made sure that we get to visit Raohe. Serves as one of the oldest night markets in Taipei, Raohe Night Market is a street that is filled with interesting foods and snacks, quaint shops and stalls with affordable souvenirs and pasalubongs.

We started our gastronomic adventure by trying a heavenly takoyaki. Even though I am not a fan of cheese, I savoured every bite of it. What we did next was the worst decision of all — we ordered a meal with rice. We haven't had any food for the past 8 hours so we thought it'd be best. Little did we know that that will be the end of our food crawl (well, except for the chicken pops that I bought after).

When we came back to the PH, most of the questions we received was about the food. We really can't say much because aside from the fact that we rarely eat, the foods we tried wasn't that pleasing to our palette.

It's one of the many regrets that I have so when I visit Taiwan (or any other country for that matter) again, I'll make it a point to try a lot of foods possible.

To go to Raohe Night Market, you may take the Green Line 3 to the terminal station Songshan, exit 5. The night market entrance is just to the right across the street next to the temple. Make sure you arrive with an almost empty stomach and remember, don't eat a rice meal! ;-)
